Six days after the 2023 AGM - on August 9th - new President John Kubale met with the Webmaster and told him that he would take a pragmatic approach to his Presidency and to the rules as well. Brett told him that if John didn't follow the rules, there would be objections. In the end, they agreed to disagree about the best way to run the club.

In her July President's Report - probably referencing the Webmaster - Mary said "My concern as I leave the President’s position, is that it will be more difficult to get new people, let alone a President, if new ideas are constantly opposed in the manner they have been in the last few months."

[The Webmaster has said that he wasn't opposing new ideas - he was opposing BAD ideas.]

The minutes of the 2023 AGM show Vice President Julienne McKay saying "Karen [Davis] was President for 8 years and was only relieved when she appealed to Mary to take on the role." Julienne was wrong, and her statement was untrue.

Karen was not relieved - she stepped down because she felt that 8 years in the role was more than enough for her. She did not appeal to Mary to take on the role - and in fact had tried to dissuade Mary from becoming President because of Mary's busy lifestyle!

Julienne wanted limited Presidential terms so "new ideas" could be introduced - even though she acknowledged that any committee member or club member could present new ideas. Her support for limiting Presidential terms was also a slap in the face for Peter Dalton and the 2011 committee who had worked so hard to find a perfect solution for the club, but perhaps Julienne wasn't aware of this significant moment in the history of the club.

The Webmaster later wrote that "given all of the above, and the recent events at the time that had violated the SBW constitution - it seemed to me that the club was losing its way. As Webmaster and club Archivist I had been updating the club's history on the Shoalhaven Bushwalkers website for more than twenty years. The decisions made at the August 2023 committee meeting (after the AGM) convinced me that most of the new committee members were unaware of the how the club was supposed to be run. I added three pages to the SBW website in early September to fix this lack of awareness - two under the "Club Info" menu, and the third under the "History" menu."

Here are links to those pages -

This page describes part of the Secret History of Shoalhaven Bushwalkers (SBW) from the beginning of 2023 to the present. During that time, the Shoalhaven Bushwalkers committee lost many experienced committee members who were replaced by members new to the club with little to no experience of how the SBW committee, the club's constitution and the legalities of incorporated associations worked. It introduced a lot of bad new ideas, some of which were (and still are) violations of the club's constitution. Committee members responsible for these new ideas include John Souter, Andy Winfield, Clare Lord, Kynie Evison, Sue Feary, Ellis Gentle, Jennifer Himmelreich, Albert Forgan, Greg Smith, Ines Gale, Rick O'Shea, Marg O'Shea, Lee Cordner, Peter Walsh, Mary Furness, Julienne McKay, and John Kubale.
