Hi to my "friends" on the Shoalhaven Bushwalkers committee,

This email is NOT official SBW business - it's personal.

It has been an interesting couple of months since the Shoalhaven Bushwalkers committee decided that the suggestions I was sending them were not intended to help the club but were "intended to cause disruption to the committee’s effective governance of the Club."

There was obviously a difference of opinion between me and the committee about the intention behind my suggestions. If my intentions were honourable, there would have been no reason to cancel my SBW membership, but if my intentions were malevolent, then I deserved to be kicked out.

The only person who knows for certain what my intentions were - and are - is me. For some reason the committee did not ask me what my intentions were - they just assumed the worst and are cancelling my membership BECAUSE OF AN ASSUMPTION!

In January this year - after 7 months of silence - I began sending the club suggestions for desperately needed improvements (IMHO). I continued this until April with absolutely NO FEEDBACK from the committee - NOT EVEN A REQUEST TO STOP SENDING SUGGESTIONS - and when I finally received some feedback it said that my membership was being cancelled.

The committee has the hide to call this "effective governance"!

One of the most interesting things that has happened during that time was the deafening silence from my "friends" on the committee. None of them suggested that the committee speak to me. None of them spoke to me personally to get my side of the story or to ask me what my intentions were. None of them rang me. None of them emailed me. None of them texted me.

I don't believe this is the way friends should treat each other. Friends don't stab each other in the back. I expect more from my friends, and if they don't meet my standards and expectations, then they don't deserve to be my friends.

All of you have fallen short of the standards required to be my friends, and as a result, all of you are no longer my friends. I will not have anything to do with any of you in the future.

I hope you will treat your other friends better than you have treated me.

Regards,
Brett
