Hi SBW committee,

The September 2023 committee Meeting minutes mention that the decision to appoint a "welfare officer" at the September general meeting was unconstitutional, and then later on in those minutes there is a proposal which mentions a "group of members" in relation to this issue -

At the next meeting in October 2023, General Business item #6 mentions a "welfare group" -

The June 2024 General Meeting minutes in Appendix 4 - committee Statement - mention the committee decision of "Introducing a Club Welfare Officer" in relation to a completely separate issue - the number of emails a member was sending.

There is no mention of a "Wellbeing Officer" in any club minutes since the club was formed. Despite this, a job description for this position suddenly appears in the July 2024 Job Descriptions document although there is no official record of the position ever being created!

May I remind you again of the objectives of the club as shown in our constitution -

Offering support to unwell club members might be a nice gesture, but it falls outside the club's objectives so the "Club Member Wellbeing Officer" position should never have been created. The committee wasted its time proposing it, discussing it, illegally bringing it into being, including it in documentation and actually providing support should any have occurred.

A quick search of previous committee meeting minutes will show you that the idea of a welfare officer has been discussed on at least two separate occasions in the past - and rejected. It should have been rejected this time too.

I would suggest you either remove the position and its documentation from club records, or create it legally - so I can then challenge its violation of the constitution.

Cheers,
Brett

This page shows one of the 35 suggestions to improve the club and its procedures sent by the Shoalhaven Bushwalkers webmaster to the SBW committee in 2025. The Shoalhaven Bushwalkers webmaster would have his membership cancelled for sending in these suggestions, although the real reason was probably because of two disputes he raised with the Shoalhaven Bushwalkers committee which they seemingly did not want to deal with. The cancellation of the webmaster's membership was arguably illegal under NSW law and could lead to the club being taken to court.
