Subject: No useful information being received from the Secretary

Date sent: April 11, 2025

Hi SBW committee,

As you no doubt know, I have been sending in numerous suggestions for improving the club and its policies over the past couple of months. I have only received three replies to these emails during that time.

The first reply was from the IT Team who decided to act on my suggestions – or not act on them – without apparently seeking any input from the rest of the committee. When I replied to the IT Team’s email pointing out that I was making suggestions to the committee rather than the IT Team, I heard nothing further from them.

On 25th March – three days after I made a suggestion to the committee that answering correspondence should be made a club rule and should be added to the Secretary’s job description - I received an email from Clare that stated that “Your emails today, along with your other emails received since January, will be tabled as correspondence in at our next committee meeting in April”, and a week or so later I received a second email from Clare that stated, “Your emails sent over the weekend have been received”.

Unfortunately, Clare’s replies don’t provide me with any useful information. Clare does not know how many emails I’ve sent, and she does not tell me how many she has received, nor what their subjects were. As a result, while I now know that the club has received some emails from me, I don’t know whether the club has received all the emails, and if any have failed to be received, I don’t know which particular emails went missing.

I realize that SBW has no compulsion in its rules, procedures and job descriptions to reply to any correspondence from any source, so I haven’t been expecting Clare to reply to any of my emails. I also suspect it would be unlikely for her to send me a list of the emails that she has received.

The committee has previously decided that sending or copying emails to individual committee members is a punishable offence (see Standing Resolution #26) so with no useful information or feedback being received from the committee, and to ensure that all my emails are reaching the Secretary, I have put all my emails online. A side benefit of this will be that all committee members can read my emails at any time without the need for them to be filtered by the Secretary and presented sight-unseen at committee meetings.

If she likes, Clare can compare the emails she has received with the emails online, and let me know which ones she is missing – or she can just copy and paste the missing emails into “Correspondence In”.

A website with the URL of www.emailstoshoalhavenbushwalkers.com contains all of this year's emails. In the future I might include my emails from previous years to ensure the database is complete – like an online backup.

I have redacted all the club member names in the emails to avoid any "Invasion of Privacy" concerns, but I might have missed one or two. If I have please let me know, and I will put the corrections on the end of my very long "to do" list so they should be fixed by late May - early June at the latest.

Feel free to give the link to the emails to any and all club members. As far as I am concerned, there is no need for them to be "Private and Confidential" ... 😀

Regards,
Brett

This page shows one of the 35 suggestions to improve the club and its procedures sent by the Shoalhaven Bushwalkers webmaster to the SBW committee in 2025. The Shoalhaven Bushwalkers webmaster would have his membership cancelled for sending in these suggestions, although the real reason was probably because of two disputes he raised with the Shoalhaven Bushwalkers committee which they seemingly did not want to deal with. The cancellation of the webmaster's membership was arguably illegal under NSW law and could lead to the club being taken to court.
